Dog heat cycle explained
Unspayed female dogs typically go into heat (estrus) every 6 months (range: 5–12 months). The cycle has 4 stages: proestrus (~9 days), estrus (~9 days when fertile), diestrus, and anestrus. The fertile window is usually days 9–14 of the heat period.
