The Air-Fuel Ratio (AFR) is the mass ratio of air to a solid, liquid, or gaseous fuel present in a combustion process.

AFR = m_air / m_fuel

The stoichiometric AFR for gasoline is 14.7:1. A ratio higher than this is "lean," while a lower ratio is "rich."
