What is detention time?
Detention time (also called hydraulic retention time, HRT) is the average time a fluid spends inside a tank or reactor. It's a critical parameter in water treatment, wastewater treatment, and chemical engineering.
DT = Volume / Flow Rate
Longer detention times allow more contact between water and treatment chemicals or microorganisms, generally improving treatment effectiveness.
