Converting moles to atoms

Using Avogadro's number (6.022 × 10²³), we can convert moles to individual atoms or molecules:

Formula units = moles × Nₐ

Atoms = Formula units × atoms per formula unit

Example: 2 mol of H₂O = 2 × 6.022×10²³ = 1.204×10²⁴ molecules. Each H₂O has 3 atoms, so: 3.613×10²⁴ atoms total.

mol
e.g. H₂O = 3, NaCl = 2, Fe = 1, C₆H₁₂O₆ = 24
