What is Dog BMI?
Dog BMI (Body Mass Index) is an adaptation of the human BMI concept for canines. It helps assess whether your dog's weight is proportional to their body size. While veterinarians more commonly use a Body Condition Score (BCS) on a 1–9 scale, BMI provides a quick numerical reference.
How it's calculated
We use the formula BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)², where height is measured at the shoulder (withers). The ranges differ from human BMI since dogs have vastly different proportions.
